James D. “Mac” McDowell, II

Mr. James D. “Mac” McDowell, II, 54, of Sylvester, died Sunday, November 9, 2014 at Phoebe Worth Hospital.

The Funeral Service was held at 2:00 PM on Wednesday, November 12, 2014 at Banks Funeral Home Chapel with a private interment following with Masonic Rites.  The Rev. Tim Mathews officiated.

Mr. McDowell was born on June 28, 1960 in Columbus, GA. to James Dewey and Billie Keith McDowell.  He had lived in Worth County since 1985.  Mr. McDowell graduated from Albany High School in 1978 and The Georgia Police Academy in 1980.  He was a former police officer, having worked with the Sylvester P.D., Poulan P.D. and Doerun P.D.  Mr. McDowell was a member of Albany Lodge #24 F&AM and a Past Master Counselor of the Albany Chapter of the Order of DeMolay. He was a former Albany Valley of Scottish Rite Hasan Temple Provost Marshall.  Mr. McDowell was an avid hunter, enjoyed fishing and collecting guns.

Survivors include his partner, Charlene H. Doggett of Sylvester and her son, Jason Doggett; mother, Billie McDowell of Cordele; siblings, Jenene Maybury (Walt) of Thatcher, AZ, Brenda Sellers (Mike) of Pine Mt., Debbie Nichols (Donnie) of Cullman, AL, Clifton McDowell (Brenda “Woody”) of Cordele and Elizabeth “Libby” Howell (Jerry) of Baconton; several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Mr. McDowell was preceded in death by his father, James Dewey McDowell; and both his maternal and paternal grandparents.

Honorary pallbearers were Marcus “Dale” Flannigan, Angel Bradford, Beth Hearn, Trish Fincher, Ed Tuller, Lenny Davis, all Worth County Law Enforcement Officers and Masons.
