Funeral services for James E. “J.E.” Dunlap, 88, of Ashburn were held Monday, March 25, 2013 at 3:00 P.M. at Terrell Baptist Church with interment following at Rose Hill Cemetery in Ashburn. Mr. Dunlap died Saturday following an extended illness.
Mr. Dunlap was born in Ware County, GA and was the son of the late Fletcher E. and Mamie Hicks Dunlap. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II and was awarded the Purple Heart. He was a retired Naval Store Operator and was a former member of the Turner County Board of Education. He was a faithful member of Terrell Baptist Church where he served as a Deacon and other various positions in the church. He was preceded in death by two daughters, Sandy Dunlap Joseph in 1993 and Judy Carole Dunlap in 2011.
Mr. Dunlap is survived by his wife of 67 years, Jean Folsom Dunlap, Ashburn, GA; his son, Jim (Millie) Dunlap, Sylvester, GA; his daughters, Vicky (Stan) Hendrick, Saint Simons Island, GA and Wendy (Gene) Avera, Birmingham. AL; and his son-in-law, John Joseph, McLean, VA. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Kim (John) Brownlee, Tifton, GA; Jennifer (Clay) Wulf, Omaha, NE; Matthew Joseph, Baltimore, MD; and Heather (Tom) Dundon, Charlotte, NC; his great-grandchildren, Garrett, Dawson and Banks Brownlee all of Tifton, and Lyla Wulf, Omaha, NE; and his brother and sister, Cecil (Evelyn) Dunlap, Alma, GA and Tiny Jean Tillman, Adel, GA.
The family received friends Monday from 1:00-2:30 P.M. at Terrell Baptist Church.
