Lenard Terry

Lenard Terry was born in Sumner, Georgia in January 1, 1932 to the late William and Emma Gardner Terry. He departed this life on Sunday, November 17, 2019. He was also proceeded in death by two siblings, Clemmie and William L. Terry.

At an early age, he became a member of the Millers Chapel AME Church in Sumner, Ga. While living in Sumner, Lenard was employed by the Georgia Highway Department. He soon relocated to Sanford, FL where he worked for the Florida State Bank for thirty-five years. While pursuing his career in Florida, Lenard was joined in holy matrimony to the love of his life, Roberta Roberts and to this union was born a daughter, Emma Louise. After the death of Roberta and Emma Louise, Lenard returned to Sumner, GA to be near his family.

Lenard’s family, especially his nieces a nephews, looked forward to him coming to Georgia during the holidays and other special occasions because he would bring with him bushels of oranges, grapefruits, tangerines, and other goodies to be shared with his family. He loved his family and enjoyed helping whenever and wherever he could. Lenard was an immaculate housekeeper and excellent cook, which was evident when he became the caregiver for his cousin, J.C. Crutchfield, in Stanford, Fl.

He leaves to cherish fond memories, his siblings, Sammie Fields, Sylvester, GA; Elbert (Oneida) Terry, Atlanta, GA; Alice Glass, Detroit, MI; Rev. Lawrence (Pearl) Terry, Racine, WI; Dorothy Tinnermon, Detroit, MI; Frank (Addie) Terry, Decatur, GA; Arthur (Margie) Terry, Fayetteville, GA; Delores Peek, Ellenwood, GA and Bernice Terry, Sumner, GA; step-children Judge Debra Roberts, Pasco County, FL and David Roberts, Rochester, NY; a dear friend, Johnnie Williams, Stanford, FL and a host of nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends.
