Mary Dykes

Mrs. Mary Etta Moore McCourry Dykes, 94, of Sylvester died Wednesday, April 18, 2018 at Pine Shadow Retirement Manor.

The funeral service was held at 11AM on Saturday, April 21, 2018 at First Baptist Church of Sylvester with interment following in the Hillcrest Cemetery. Rev. Donnie Duncan officiated.

Mrs. Dykes was born on May 2, 1923 in Wakulla County, FL to the late Johnny Mae and Mary Ethel Smith Moore. She moved to Worth County with her family when she was 12. Mrs. Dykes spent her life working and serving others. She retired from Sylvester Healthcare where she assisted patients as a Social Worker. Mrs. Dykes had many joys in life but her greatest love was her family. She also enjoyed children of all ages, playing Bridge and dancing. Mrs. Dykes was a faithful member of First Baptist Church where her love of children lead her to serve as a worker in the church nursery.

Survivors included her sons, Johnny A. Dykes of Sylvester and Mark Dykes of Jacksonville, FL; daughter, Donna King (Davis, Sr.) of Sylvester; grandchildren, Ashley King Shepard, Davis King Jr., Rachel Giddens, Austin Dykes, Garrison Dykes and Flynt Dykes; great-grandchildren, Kingsley Shepard, Molly Shepard, Elly King, Davis King III and Charlie Giddens, along with a number of extended family members and friends.

In addition to her parents, Mrs. Dykes was preceded in death by a brother, Charles M. Moore on December 16, 2004.

Pallbearers included Billy Davis, Tommy Jones, Garrison Dykes, Flynt Dykes, Mike Houston and Pete Shiver.
