Max B. Eaton

Mr. Max B. Eaton, 78, of Sylvester died Saturday March 16, 2013 at Phoebe Putney Memorial Hospital.

A memorial service will be held at 11:00 AM on Friday March 22, 2103 at Banks Funeral Chapel with full military honors. Dr. Ben Bush will officiate.

Max was born in Fitzgerald, GA on December 29, 1934 to the late Jewell Dykes Eaton and George Edward Eaton, Sr. He graduated from Fitzgerald High School in 1953 and enlisted in the United States Marine Corps in November of that year. He served over 24 and one-half years of active duty. Max earned each of the enlisted ranks and, after his second tour of Vietnam, was selected as an officer under the LDO Program. He retired as head of Provisioning and Maintenance and Systems Branch in the Logistics Systems Support Division, Marine Corps Logistics Base, Albany on September 30, 1978. Having traveled extensively during his time in the Corps, Max preferred to spend his retirement years enjoying his pond and workshop at his home in Worth County. He particularly enjoyed his cats and liked watching and photographing the birds and squirrels in his backyard.

Survivors include his wife of 48 years, Betty Sue Rivers Eaton of Sylvester; brother, James Harding Morris of Atlanta; sister & brother in law, Julie & Ronald Sumner; nephew, Scott Sumner; sisters in law, Mary Lee Eaton of Camilla, Aki Eaton of Ft. Walton Beach, FL; brother-in law, John Poltorak of Middlesex, NJ and numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, Mr. Eaton was preceded in death by his son, John Lawrence Eaton on June 14, 2011; nine siblings, Melba Morris, Edna Ruth Morris, Joseph Emory Morris, Jr., Jackson Frasier Morris, Mary Elizabeth Eaton Bannister, George Edward Eaton, Jr., Virginia Kate Eaton Poltorak, Charles Ward Eaton and Robert Lawson Eaton.

The family will receive friends on Friday from 10:00 AM until service hour.
