Minnie L. McElroy Cox

Mrs. Minnie L. McElroy Cox, 73, of Americus died Friday, September 12, 2014 at her daughter’s residence.

The funeral service was held at 2:00 PM on Sunday, September 14, 2014 at Pine Hill Baptist Church with interment following in the Church Cemetery. The Rev. Donnie Wright officiated.

Mrs. Cox was born on May 27, 1941 in Ty Ty to the late Edgar Vernon and Mary Ellen McEntyre McElroy. Mrs. Cox had lived in Americus since the 1960’s and was formerly employed with Caravelle Boats as a seamstress. She enjoyed sewing, reading and spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Mrs. Cox was a member of Pine Hill Baptist Church.

Survivors include her daughters, Marie Cox of Andersonville, Lisa Wright (Richard) of Dickson, TN and Debbie Cape (Len) of Americus; son, Tony Cox (Marsha) of Leslie; daughter-in-law, Ginny Cox of Buckhead; step-children, Ernie Gibson of Eatonton, Alan Newham of Valdosta and Curtis Newham of Hazlehurst; 11 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; sisters, Melvina Saylor of Sumner and Alice Cox of Americus; brother, John Henry McElroy (Betty) of Plains and a host of nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, Mrs. Cox was preceded in death by her son, Glenn Irvin Cox, Jr. and two sisters, Rosie Lea Crenshaw and Fannie Walls.

Pallbearers included Adam Cox, Brandon Cox, Colby Cape, Tim Wright, Johnny Raybon and James Scott.
