Mrs. Patricia “Patsy” Hancock Simpson, 80, of Doerun died Saturday April 20, 2013 at Colquitt Regional Medical Center after a declining health.
The funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday April 24, 2013 at Union Baptist Church with interment to follow in the church cemetery. Reverends Donnie Bentley and Lonnie Gibson will officiate.
Mrs. Simpson was born on August 21, 1932 to the late Daniel Bazzle and Vera Bell Watson Hancock in Colquitt County and lived in Worth County most of her life. A graduate of Sylvester High School, she retired from the Worth County Board of Education as a paraprofessional and was a homemaker. Mrs. Simpson enjoyed gardening, growing daylilies, cooking 12 layer chocolate cakes and collecting antique glassware. She was a member of Union Baptist Church where she served as a Sunday School teacher, Vacation Bible School Director, church clerk and a music director.
Survivors include her son, Bradley Simpson of Doerun; sisters, Helen Powell (Orus) of Albany, Vivian Belcher of Albany, Shelby Jean Bass (Bill) of Tifton and a number of nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers will be Jack Powell, Richard Simpson, Lynn Belcher, Bill Hancock, Preston Simpson, and Johnny Massey. Honorary Pallbearers will be Elaine Massey, Audrey Coleman, Barbara McCorvey and Betty Smith.
In addition to her parents Mrs. Simpson was preceded in death by her husband of 57 years, Ira J. Simpson, two brothers Jack Hancock and Ray Hancock.
The family will receive friends on Tuesday from 6 until 8 p.m. at Banks Funeral Home.
