Seeking Qualified Writer

The Sylvester Local News is seeking a qualified writer for a reporter position. The successful applicant will prepare news content in a variety of formats (text and photo) for print and online. Preference is given to experience in news environments or those with a journalism background. Must be able to work within tight deadlines and various hours.

As a reporter the ideal candidate will collect and analyze information about newsworthy events to write news articles for publication; receive assignments and/or evaluates news leads and tips to develop story ideas; gather and verify factual information through interviews, observation and research; organize material, determine emphasis and write articles according to the prescribed editorial style and formatting standards, incorporate social media into the reporting routine; take photographs to illustrate stories.

Successful applicant should be personable, have excellent writing skills and good command of the English language.
