Posted on September 30, 2014 By Sylvester Local

Mr. William E. “Bill” Whitney, 74, of Albany snuck out of here while no one was looking on Saturday, September 27, 2014 at Willson Hospice House in Albany.

A Memorial Service was held at 2:00 P.M. on Tuesday, September 30, 2014 at Banks Funeral Home.  The Rev. Bryan Haynes and Mr. Herbert Gladin officiated.

Mr. Whitney was born on June 15, 1940 in Pawtucket, Rhode Island to the late Roscoe James and Helene Anna Schmidt Whitney. He had lived in Albany for 64 years.  Mr. Whitney had worked as a Structural Engineer and Architectural Draftsman for Maschke & Associates.  He had a passion for art and won prizes at numerous art shows for his pen and ink drawings.  Mr. Whitney enjoyed mountain biking through the untamed reaches of Lee, Worth and Dougherty Counties and collecting small examples of God’s wonders.  He was a member of Gordy New Bethel Baptist Church.  Mr. Whitney would have celebrated his 46th wedding anniversary on October 4, 2014. He was a funny man extraordinaire.

Survivors include his wife, Gail Gilchrist Whitney; son, Drew Whitney (Missy) of Albany; grandson, Elijah Whitney; brother, Bob Whitney (Andre’) of Florence, SC; brother-in-law, James Gilchrist (Patricia) of Madison, AL.; 2 nieces and 2 nephews.
