The WCMS Treble Choir and their instructor Mrs. Leslie Holton presented the Worth County Fire Department and Piggly Wiggly an American flag and a picture collage from their New York trip. Mrs. Sevier, who accepted on behalf of the Worth County Middle School, also received a picture collage from the choir. The students gathered in the library of the Middle School to make their presentations where they also entertained everyone with a quick song before walking outside to take pictures with members of the Sylvester and Worth County Fire Departments and others who helped them achieve their goal of making it to New York. The choir members performed in a music competition in New York City, where they received 1st place. The flags they presented were signed by members of three different fire departments in NYC including Engine Company 7 in Manhattan. Some of the firemen who signed had actually responded to the 9/11 disaster. Kevin and Kyle Tomlinson of Piggly Wiggly allowed the students to earn money for their trip by working part time at the store, where they bagged groceries for tips and even held a cookout one afternoon. Kyle Tomlinson remarked that the dedication of the students to earn their own trip money “speaks volumes about their will to succeed.” Congratulations to the WCMS Treble Choir for working so hard to earn their 1st place spot!
