Worth Welcomes New Family Connections Coordinator

Posted on February 11, 2015February 11, 2015 By Sylvester Local

DSC_0035Last November, Lisa Dylinski became Worth County’s new Family Connections Coordinator. And, Dylinski is already off to a wonderful start as she explains that the graduation rate is up to 80 percent in Worth County. In 2011 the rate was only 74 percent.

Family Connections is comprised of a collaborative of individuals from different agencies in our community. They are dedicated to promoting the well-being of their children and families.

They work together on various programs and projects to encourage the children to stay in school, make positive choices, graduate high school and reach their full potential.

Another goal they are working toward is having more parental engagement with their children at school.

Family Connection in conjunction with the City of Sylvester provides a 6 week Summer Camp for children ages 6-15 yrs. old. It’s held Monday through Friday from 7:30 a.m. until 5:00 p.m. They are implementing the STEM program (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math) this year. It’s a hands on learning program.

They have a Dictionary Project that provides dictionaries to every 3rd grader and a dictionary & thesaurus to the adult students at the Worth County Moultrie Tech campus GED program.

They hosted their 1st Children’s Christmas Party this past December, which is an afternoon of games, prizes, crafts and food. They are planning to hold it annually. This year they had 110 children and 40 adults.

They would love to have more collaborative involvement from the parents in our community. Their Collaborative Meetings are held the 4th Tuesday of the month at the Henry Hall Woolard Community Center from 12-1 p.m. If you are interested please call me at 229-376-0094 for more information.

Family Connections does not run the Afterschool Outreach program. Sharon Lyles does. They can contact her after 4 p.m. at the Henry Hall Woolard Community Center for more info.

They also have a Worth County Family Connection facebook page where Lisa Dylinski lists upcoming events and things happening in the community.
