Heywood Apperson

Mr. Heywood Apperson, 84, of Sylvester died Saturday, April 21, 2018 at Willson Hospice House.
The funeral service was held at 11:00 AM on Tuesday, April 24, 2018 at Banks Funeral Home with interment following in the Hillcrest Cemetery.  Rev. Jeff Barker, Rev. Kevin Apperson and Mr. Mike Compton officiated.

Mr. Apperson was born on May 24, 1933 in Worth County to the late Elzie Van Buren and Julia Maude McDonald Apperson.  He was a farmer who lived in Worth County all his life.  Mr. Apperson was named Worth County Senior Farmer of the Year and served in the United States Marine Corp.  Mr. Apperson enjoyed hunting, fishing and being outdoors.  He was a devoted family man who dearly loved his family, especially his grandchildren.  Mr. Apperson was a faithful servant of his Lord Jesus Christ whom he loved above all.  He was a member of Gordy Baptist Church where he served as a Deacon and attended the Men’s Sunday School Class.

Survivors include his beloved wife, Shirley Paulk Apperson of Sylvester; daughters, Kathy Mims (Henry) of Sylvester, Stephanie Perez of Dallas, TX; son, Ricky Apperson (Margie Thompson) of Sylvester;  grandchildren, Kassie Apperson, Sara Mims, and Tanner Apperson; brothers, W.N. Apperson (Donna) and Billy Apperson, all of Sylvester; sisters, Runelle White of Sylvester, Marie Hudson of Albany and Marti Hoag (George) of Worth County; along with numerous nieces, nephews and extended family members.

In addition to his parents, Mr. Apperson was preceded in death by his siblings, Mac Apperson, Shirley Apperson and Anne Blackford.

Active pallbearers included Dwayne Strenth, Stuart Jones, Stacey Jones, Keith Apperson, Charlie Austin and Chad Gunter.  Honorary pallbearers included John Sumner, Shannon Newcomb, Mike Roberts, RL Herring, Clint Etheredge, Mason Roberts, Billy Senkbeil, Terry Brown, Bobby Watson, Oliver Hood, Wayne Senkbeil, Lonnie Dupree, Tony Senkbeil, Ray Dupree, Allen Strenth and Randy Gunter.

For those desiring, memorials may be made in his honor to the Alzheimer’s Association, 225 East 2nd Ave., Tifton, Georgia 31794 or Willson Hospice House, 320 Foundation Lane, Albany, GA 31707.
