Laura Zethmayr

Laura Nell James Zethmayr, 80, of Sylvester, Georgia passed away on Monday, December 10, 2018 in her daughter’s home in Sharpsburg, Georgia.  Laura was born on September 18, 1938 in Sylvester.  She ispreceded in death by her parents Vernon Isaiah (Zeke) James and Lillian Lucile (Cile) Greene James.  She was also preceded in death by her grandson Daniel James Milner.  She is survived by her three daughters René Zethmayr Milner (Gary) of Sharpsburg, GA; Rhonda Zethmayr Stischer (David) of Longmont, CO; and Patsy Zethmayr Shirley of Leesburg, GA. She was blessed with ten grandchildren – Alicia Milner Sarvis (Jacob) of Johns Creek, GA,  Jessie Milner of Sharpsburg, GA, Maggie Milner (Jack Morris) of Eatonton, GA and Joe Milner of Sharpsburg, GA.  Rebecca Stischer Nguyen (Victor) of Kailua, Hawaii; Hannah Stischer of Salt Lake City, UT, Sarah Stischer and Mary Stischer of Longmont, CO.  Courtney Shirley Edmunds (Kyle) of Opelika, AL, Chelsey Shirley of Decatur, GA and Candace Shirley of Leesburg, GA. One great-granddaughter, Lily Sarvis of Johns Creek, GA.  And her brother, Byrns Allen (BA) James (Lurlene) of Joseph City, AZ.

Laura retired from Mitchell EMC in 2000 and spent her retirement years enjoying time with her children, grandchildren and most recently her great-grandchild.  A 1956 graduate of Sylvester High School, Laura remained close to many of her classmates through the years, enjoying group lunches, dinners and many class reunions.    

A lifelong resident of Sylvester, Laura lived the last 2 ½ years in Sharpsburg with René and Gary.    

The matriarch of her family, Laura taught all she loved to “be yourself, love your family no matter what, take care of yourself and most importantly, P. A. T. I. E. N. C. E.    

A graveside service will be held at a later time.  In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in her name to Horizons Community Solutions, formerly the Cancer Coalition of South Georgia, 810 13th Avenue, Suite 105, Albany, GA. 31701.
