Ellen Sumner Melton Sellers

Mrs. Ellen Sumner Melton Sellers, 75, of Sumner died Tuesday April 30, 2013 at her residence.
The funeral service was held at 11:00 AM on Thursday May 2, 2013 at Pinson Memorial United Methodist Church with interment following in the Hillcrest Cemetery with Rev. Mike Davis and Rev. John Eubanks officiating.
Mrs. Sellers was born on November 26, 1937 near Sumner, Georgia to the late Johnnie Wyatt Sumner and Mary Elizabeth Johnson Sumner. She graduated from Sumner High School in June, 1955 and Georgia Teachers College, now Georgia Southern University in Statesboro, Georgia in June 1959. Mrs. Sellers later received a Master’s Degree in elementary education from Georgia Southwestern College in Americus, Georgia in July, 1975. She married Carl David Melton on June 14, 1959. They were married for 34 years. After David’s passing in 1994, she married John Aaron Sellers, a retired United Methodist minister on July 15, 1995.
Mrs. Sellers taught elementary and middle school for a total of 36 years, most of which was in Worth County. She also taught in Knox County, Tennessee, Lowndes County, Georgia and Chatham County Georgia. She was a member of Pinson Memorial United Methodist Church in Sylvester, Georgia where she was an active member of the Maude O’Sheal Sunday School Class and has served in many capacities in the church through the years. One of Ellen’s greatest joys was singing in the church choir.
Survivors include one son, John Sumner Melton, Sr. (Betsy) of Crawfordville, Florida; two grandsons, John S. Melton, Jr of Crawfordville, Florida and David Scott Melton of the U.S. Army, Augusta, GA; step-daughter Carol Anne Eubanks (John) of Moultrie, GA; step-son, Mark Sellers (Shirley) of Trenton, Missouri; sister, Elaine S. Walker (Dan, deceased) of Lillian, Alabama; and a brother, Wallace Wyatt Sumner (Felicia) of Sumner, Georgia. She is also survived by numerous step-grandchildren, nieces and nephews, and great- nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents and her first husband, Mrs. Sellers was preceded in death by her husband, John Aaron Sellers.
Serving as pallbearers were John Melton, Jr., Aaron Eubanks, Abel Eubanks, David Scott Melton, Adam Eubanks and Stanley Willis.

Banks Funeral Home in Sylvester was in charge of the arrangements.
