Ethel Lynch Hawthorne

Mrs. Ethel Lynch Hawthorne, 84, of Warner Robins died Monday, September 1, 2014 at Embracing Hospice Facility in Snellville, GA.

The funeral service was held at 2:00 PM on Saturday, September 6, 2014 at Pinson Memorial United Methodist Church with interment in the Hillcrest Cemetery. The Father Reins will officiate.

Mrs. Hawthorne was born on January 9, 1930 in Albany to the late James Henry and Ethel Keenan Lynch. She grew up living in Augusta. She graduated from the St. Joseph’s Infirmary School of Nursing in 1950 with an RN degree. She married the late George B. Hawthorne, Jr., on January 3, 1953 in Augusta and lived in Atlanta until George graduated with his PhD in 1965.  Mrs. Hawthorne has lived in Massachusetts, Clear Lake City, TX, Columbus, GA and Warner Robins, GA.

Mrs. Hawthorne was a founding member of All Saints Anglican Church in Macon where she served as secretary. She was a loving, giving mother, wife, dedicated nurse, and an avid gardener. She loved her dogs and cats. In the 1960’s and 70’s she was an award winning garden club member in Clear Lake City, TX and Bedford, MA.  She served in both clubs as secretary.

Survivors include her son, George B. Hawthorne, III; daughter, Susan Elizabeth H. Knight (Barry); grandchildren, Julia Michelle Hawthorne, William A. Knight (Tori) and Katherine K. Glass (Justin); great-grandchildren, Logan A. and Liam C. Knight; sister, Sylvia L. “Cookie” Gosney and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Alzheimers Association, Georgia Chapter, 41 Perimeter Center East, Suite 550, Atlanta, GA 30346.

The family will receive friends on Saturday from 1:00 PM until the service hour at Pinson Memorial United Methodist Church.
