Gerald Lee Howell of Middleburg, FL passed away Tuesday, May 6, 2014. Gerald wanted it to be known that Jesus Christ was his Lord and Savior. Mr. Howell was born on March 8, 1947 in Tifton, Ga. to the late William Nathaniel and late Irene Elizabeth Turner Howell and was raised in Worth County. He lived in Middleburg since 2010 after moving from Jacksonville, FL, where he lived for 25 years.
He served in the USMC during the Vietnam War where he was involved in over 640 combat missions during his 10 year military career. Since retirement, Mr. Howell enjoyed any type of sports; golf, NASCAR, fishing, Georgia Bulldogs football, or the Atlanta Braves. He loved spending time with his friends, family, and will be missed by everyone that came in contact with him.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Howell was preceded in death by his daughter, Stephanie Carol Karr, Nov. 3, 2011.
Mr. Howell is survived by his wife, Sandra “Sandy” Lloyd-Howell of Middleburg, FL; one son, Chris Howell of Jacksonville, FL; five grandchildren, Andrew Karr, Patrick Karr, Jessica Karr, Owen Howell and Griffin Howell, all of Jacksonville, FL; four step-children, Chris, Kim, Brandon and Michael, all of Jacksonville, FL; two brothers, William Joseph Howell of San Diego, CA and Harold Edward Howell of Doerun; two sisters, Ann Howell Cook of Lee County and June Howell Coker of Doerun.
Memorial Services will be held Friday, May 23rd at 12:30 p.m. in the Jacksonville National Cemetery with military honors.
