Mrs. Grace Smith Girone, 92 of Albany formerly of Sylvester died Thursday October 24, 2013 at her residence.
The funeral service was held at 11 a.m. on Monday October 28, 2013 at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church with interment following in the Hillcrest Cemetery. Rev. Lee Lowery officiated.
Serving as pallbearers were Dr. Price Corr, Dr. Cullen Richardson, Jay Reynolds, Jimmy Girone, Bill Swan and John Griffin.
Mrs. Girone was born on August 29, 1921 in Winder, GA to the late John Roy and Ruby Pitts Smith. She lived in Albany since 1999 and was retired from the Social Security Administration. She graduated from the Georgia State College of Women with a b.s. degree. Mrs. Girone was a member of the Barnard Trail Chapter N.S.D.A.R., Pierre Robert Chapter of the D.A.C., and the John Sumner Chapter of the Colonial Dames of the 17th Century. She was a member of the Order of the Daughters of the King and St. Paul’s Episcopal Church.
Survivors include her husband of 54 years, Joseph “Joe” Girone of Albany; son, Charles Jerry Girone of Rockford, IL; grandchildren, Joanna Crews and Caroline Crews and a special adopted daughter, Mary King Givens.
Mrs. Girone was preceded in death by a daughter, Vicki Lynn Crews on March 25, 2003.
