Mr. Richard T. “Dusty” Rhoads, Jr., 62, of Sylvester died Sunday, August 17, 2014 at his residence.
A Memorial Service will be held at 3:00 PM on Thursday, August 21, 2014 at Bryant Drive Baptist Church. The Rev. Ron Stinson will officiate.
Mr. Rhoads was born on April 29, 1952 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania to the late Richard T. Rhoads, Sr. and Betty Elizabeth Walker Rhoads. He had lived in Sylvester since 1987, moving here from Columbus, GA. Mr. Rhoads was a veteran of the U.S. Army, serving in Vietnam from 1971 to 1972. He joined the U.S. Naval Reserve after leaving the Army and served aboard the USS Frank Cable. Mr. Rhoads was a disabled veteran and lifetime member of the V.F.W. Post 12110 in Columbus. He was retired from the Marine Corp Logistics Base where he worked in the machine shop as a leader man. Mr. Rhoads loved his grandchildren. He was an avid hunter who enjoyed tracing genealogy and working in his church. He was a Deacon and member of Bryant Drive Baptist Church.
Survivors include his wife, Sharon Rhoads; daughters, Wendy Holton of Baconton, Catherine Witting (David) of Jacksonville, FL; son, Richard Thomas Rhoads, III (Laura) of Greensboro, NC; 9 grandchildren, James and Jeremy Holton, Katie, Abbey and Alex Parker, Dax Witting, Emily, Asher and Zoey Rhoads; mother-in-law, Melba English of Sylvester; sister, Betty Lynn Ennis of Beaufort, SC; brothers, Jeff Rhoads of Beaufort, SC, Cameron Rhoads of Ft. Worth, TX, and Paul Rhoads of Ridgeville, SC.
Mr. Rhoads was preceded in death by his brother, Daryl Rhoads and nephew, Glenn Rhoads.

The family will receive friends from 2:00 PM until the service hour at Bryant Drive Baptist Church.
