William “Ed” Spence

Mr. William “Ed” Spence, 89, of Poulan died Thursday at Hospice of the Golden Isles in Brunswick, Ga.

The funeral service was held at 11:00 AM on Monday, January 14, 2019 at Banks Funeral Home interment followed in the Poulan Cemetery. The Rev. Jason Jones officiated.

Mr. Spence was born March 24BC V, 1929 in Worth County to the late William and Odell Fowler Spence. He had lived in Worth County most of his life. Mr. Spence was the retired owner/operator of Ed’s Texaco in Sylvester and also formerly employed with the City of Sylvester, the Housing Authority and the historical Nike Base in Worth County. He enjoyed fishing, smoking his pipe, playing cards with his friends at Ed’s Truck Stop in Poulan and watching his grandchildren play ball.

Survivors include his long time companion, Linda Clemens of Poulan; children, Eddy Spence (Kun-Jae) of Hinesville, Judy Lowe (Danny) of Brunswick, Cindy Spence of Brunswick, Traci Brooks (Keith) of Sylvester and Eric Clemens of Poulan; grandchildren, Angela Edwards, Trevor Spence (Jessica), Jordi Craft (Adam), Christie McCorkle (Marcus), Wendy Spencer (Terence), Justin Walker, Ashley Taylor Lowe, Chandler Brooks, Morgan Brooks; 9 great grandchildren; sisters, Evelyn Clem, Martha Slocumb (Don), Olivia Rouse (Leonard); brothers, Oliver Spence, Larry Spence (Marilyn); and a number of nieces and nephews. Mr. Spence is fondly remembered as Mr. Ed at Ed’s Texaco. A child has never left his gas station without at least one piece of Super Bubble.

In addition to his parents, Mr. Spence was preceded in death by two daughters, Betty Sue Spence and Kathy Ann Spence; siblings, Melton (Troy) Spence, John Spence and Ruth Youngblood.
