Bennie Salter

Posted on April 3, 2019 By Sylvester Local

Bennie Carless Salter, 83, of Poulan, Georgia died March 24, 2019 at Pruitt HealthCare, Sylvester after a short illness from cancer.

The Funeral service was held at 4:00 PM, Tuesday, March 27, 2019 at Wrights Chapel Church, Worth County.  Interment followed in the church cemetery.  Reverend Jackie Cabaniss officiated.

Pallbearers for the service included, Ron Smith, Wade Salter, Danny Salter, Mike Houston, Ray Salter, and Rock Hudson.

Mr. Salter was born in Worth County, Georgia on March 17, 1936 to Preston Thomas Salter and Mary Gunn Salter.  He lived in Worth County all of his life and was a retired farmer on his family farm.  Mr. Salter served in the U.S. Army Reserve.  With a ready wit and a smile on his face, Mr. Salter never met a stranger.  Always you heard “Get out, Come on in” when you visited him.  He was recognized by his cane, his overalls, his hat and the infectious smile on his face.  He loved his family and enjoyed reminiscing about the ‘old times’ when he was a boy, but was the first to say that he didn’t want any more ‘old times’, that he enjoyed air conditioning and what new times had to offer.  He was a Baptist, a member of Wrights Chapel Church.

He was preceded in death by his father, Preston Thomas Salter, his mother, Mary Gunn Salter, his brother, Thomas Jefferson Salter, his sisters, Ettaveen Barfield of Sylvester, Ollie Mae Hufstetler of Warner Robbins, Virgie Benson of Sylvester, and Lottie Houston of Sylvester, his nephews, Wayne Salter, Raymond Salter and Mark Salter.

Survivors include his sister Dina Hudson, nieces, Debra B. (Ron) Smith, Kimberly Smith, Mary Kaitlyn Salter, Emily Salter all of Sylvester, his nephews, Carlos (Wanda) Salter, Patrick Salter,  Wade (Teresa) Salter, Danny Salter, Baylee Salter, Mike Houston and Draven Smith all of Sylvester.

A special thanks to the staff of Pruitt Healthcare, Sylvester for the excellent care he received during his short time there.
