Mrs. Mildred “Dot” Darthine Strenth Shivers, 90, of Poulan died Wednesday, February 4, 2015 at Pine Shadows Too in Sylvester.
The funeral service was held at 1:00 PM on Saturday, February 7, 2015 at Banks Funeral Home Chapel with interment following in the Poulan Cemetery. The Rev. Mike Carter officiated.
Mrs. Shivers was born in Worth County on March 10, 1924 to the late Charlie Coleman and Lavera Smith Strength. She had lived in Worth County all of her life. Mrs. Shivers was formerly employed with J. P. Stevens in Tifton, GA. She was a member of Trinity Presbyterian Church.
Survivors include her daughter, Lavern Pate (Ray) of Perry, GA; grandchildren, Ray Pate Jr. (Cindy), Shannon Pate, Craig Pate (Sunday); great-grandchildren, Madeline Pate, Marina Pate and Ocean Pate; sister-in-law and best friend, Wylene Strenth of Sylvester; sisters, Peggy Medders of Albany and Joyce Branch of Worth County; several nieces and nephews; and her caregivers, Carolyn Jefferson, Rachel Gordon, Joyce Williams and the staff at Pine Shadows.
In addition to her parents, Mrs. Shivers was preceded in death by her husbands, Vern Reed in 1952, John C. Phelps on June 25, 1982 and Barney Shivers, on March 26, 2005; sisters, Betty McCrary, Elizabeth Hicks, Melvina Rogers; brothers, Charles Strength and Wilburn Strenth.
